Welcome to Bye Bye Plastics: The Magazine!

Forest wildfire

Hi guys!

We are the Bye Bye Plastic Bags Service club, and welcome to our new form of communication, The Magazine!

We have 15 members in our club, and we are a team of motivated people who are passionate about the environment and the preservation of the planet. With the help of our supervisor, Mrs. Anne-France Muyard, and our other officers Rebecca Muya (Vice President), Lisa Ellsworth and Alejandro Sobrevilla (Our Secretaries).

Bye, Bye Plastic Bags is an organization that originated in Bali. Melati and Isabel Wijsen, at the age of 12 and 13, strived to make their home plastic-free. However, BBPB has spread around the world. Today you can now find groups in over 55 different locations around the globe! Our team’s call of action is to raise awareness and educate citizens while reducing plastic bag usage. Through governmental implementations and raising funds to support other environmental groups such as I Want To Smell The Perfume, we work together to ban plastic bags in Jakarta. We aim to have a positive impact on pollution by offering citizens alternative options.

At ages 14 and 15, Amanda and I decided to become leaders of the plastic movement after being approached by Mrs. Anne-France Muyard. They formed Bye Bye Plastic Bags Jakarta at Jakarta Intercultural School and, in the years since, have mobilized kids like them to help save the planet.

With the move to online learning, we decided to build a platform to share our message for all to view. Consequently, we started Bye Bye Plastics The Magazine to create content that sparks advocacy and awareness on our fight against plastics in Jakarta. Although we love creating written pieces depicting our views on the fight against plastic, here at BBPB The Magazine, we would like to promote voices expressing various perspectives. Elevating opinions which tend to be unheard in the battle to encourage eco-friendly lifestyles. When we first revived our service club, we only worked far with the help of those around us. We would like to continue those same traditions now, working with our community to share unfabled perspectives. Reaching out to our community to promote their views, ideologies, and take on any topic related to our cause.

With this being solely the beginning of a journey, we are genuinely excited to see where this website and blog will venture off to soon. Especially with working online turning into our new reality, we believe this site will leave a mark showcasing our community beliefs regarding the rise of eco-friendly lifestyles. Also, we would love to hear your thoughts and perspectives through the submission of a blog post. A google folder has been created to submit a google document with your post; our favorites will be uploaded up on the site. We can’t wait to read all of your amazing works.

Remember to stay safe, wear your mask, and social distance.

Best wishes, Amanda Nuzzo and Cagla Tarioglu
